Effective Strategies in Self-Advocacy for First-Generation Graduate Students

Event Status
Scheduled

Any academic and professional space is intimidating for most first-gen students and professionals. Usually it's because we don't know what we don't know. Demystifying the graduate experience is an active practice of self-advocacy. Come learn about effective strategies in proactive learning and resource building. Grad School doesn't have a how-to book but you can be empowered to make your experience less stressful and more aligned with your values and priorities.

Letty Treviño, first-generation queer Latina and Chicana, M.A. Born in Monterrey, Mexico and grew up in Houston, TX. Currently, a 5th year PhD student in Hispanic Cultures and Literatures at UCLA. I study family separation on the US-Mexico border, inclusive pedagogy, and social justice community-building on social media. Dedicated every free moment in my graduate career to first-generation and graduate student advocacy. Recently decided research faculty is the last career I want out of life. Learning to pivot my PhD and dissertation.
